95 years and looking good
Please allow me to toot the collective NPN
horn a little bit here. As you can tell by the big 95 on the cover, this issue
celebrates the fact that we have been serving the petroleum (and later convenience)
industry for 95 years. To honor this significant milestone, the NPN editorial
staff has put together this commemorative issue. I'm sure that our cover story, "95 years in the making" which begins on p.24, will bring back a lot of memories
for many of you ... and hopefully it will keep you thinking about what's in
store for our industry during the next 95 years.
For the majority of you, NPN has been a part of your business (and
family) for several decades. Many of your fathers and grandfathers began reading
NPN in the early years. Several of you have been kind enough to send
in your thoughts on the impact NPN has had on your company and/or family
during our 95 years of existence. Some of those comments appear throughout the
pages of the cover story. After reading this issue if anyone else would like
to share your thoughts on how NPN has touched your business, please feel
free to send me an e-mail or give me a call at (309)
689-9969or dwight@aip.com. I'd love to hear from you.
It is my hope that you, our current readers, continue to gain as much helpful information, if not more, as your fathers and grandfathers did before you. Personally, I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for our industry, our readers and our magazine's history during the gathering phases for this issue. I feel very proud to be part of the NPN tradition. I look forward to serving our industry as the leading news and trends publication for many years to come.
LOOKING GOOD
As I mentioned in my editor's note in January, I am excited about 2004. This issue is an example of one of many new things we will be giving you this year. Over the past several months the NPN staff has been very busy combing through our history in order to give you an interesting look back at our industry's roots. Also during that time, we have executed a complete redesign of the magazine. If I don't say so myself, I think we look great for being 95 years old!
I'd like to personally thank Peter Tucker and Sean Kealey for all of their hard work on the redesign. I think their accomplishment has given you a clean, readable and updated look that you will appreciate for many years.
This year isn't over yet ... it's just beginning. I promise that the NPN staff and you, its readers, will have plenty of things to be excited about in 2004.
